The Role
The Instructional Advisor will support our K12 school district clients and be responsible for the creation of practitioner-focused toolkits, rubrics, professional learning modules, research reports and briefs, and other documents on a wide variety of topics. Work in this position will have a focus on projects that support client needs and requests related to classroom instructional practices, educator professional development/learning, and support for classroom teachers and school leaders. However, the Instructional Advisor will also support general K12 client requests when needed. Staff in this position are expected to manage multiple projects and tasks at various stages at once. The work will allow for the swift development and refinement of a comprehensive set of research skills to support our K12 clients.
This position will include opportunities to manage and support the work of junior research staff on individual projects through project scoping and outlining, source identification, methodology creation, and project editing.  Additionally, the Instructional Advisor may join calls with current and prospective clients to assist with understanding needs and alignment to Hanover’s research capabilities. This position will report to a Senior Content Director in the K12 practice area.

  • Create client-ready deliverables on a variety of K12 practitioner-focused projects with minimal guidance or oversight
  • Analyze and synthesize literature and secondary research to provide clients with actionable recommendations and key findings
  • Interpret project requests to develop research methodologies and plans to meet client needs
  • Manage tight deadlines to create reports and documents requiring minimal editing
  • Advise, train, and manage junior researchers on discrete research projects
  • Develop new methodologies and ways of presenting content to meet client needs
  • Provide insights and expertise on client calls as needed
  • Support internal project and product development initiatives

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • Knowledge of K12 instructional strategies, evaluation methods, and content (e.g., literacy and math instruction, social-emotional learning, progress monitoring, teacher professional learning)
  • Experience developing K12 professional development/learning content or resources
  • Experience working in K12 instructional or administrative positions or settings
  • Excellent research, writing, and project management skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with team members
  • Ability to take ownership of projects from beginning (i.e., developing a research strategy) to middle (i.e., conducting research) to end (i.e., creating a polished deliverable)
  • Willingness to tackle complex, often unfamiliar research requests
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple short and long-term projects in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to proofread and edit research projects completed by self and others
  • Comfort communicating with clients about research objectives and findings
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

High comfort level with Microsoft Office applications, such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Power Point
Education Requirement

  • A master’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, teaching, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience Requirement

  • 3-5 years of full-time work experience in a K12 instruction or administrative role (e.g., classroom teacher, interventionist, curriculum development, assessment).
  • 3-5 years of experience conducting social science or education research in a professional or academic setting, such as experience collecting and analyzing data, completing survey analysis, conducting evaluations, and creating professional reports and deliverables.  
  • Experience creating or developing K12 professional development/learning content or resources is preferred.
  • Experience conducting applied education research or evaluation is preferred.
