The Role

As a Research Analyst, you will support our K-12 School District clients and be responsible for the production of research reports and strategic briefings on an extremely wide variety of topics. This position allows for the swift development and refinement of a comprehensive set of secondary research skills and provides the opportunity to develop as a mentor and leader on the K12 research team.  Leadership roles include managing the work of junior-level researchers, advising and supporting complex research projects and internal team initiatives, designing research study approaches and methodologies, and editing reports and documents. Research Analysts also have opportunities for cross-training and collaboration on survey, qualitative, and quantitative research studies.

In addition, Research Analysts contribute to Hanover’s proprietary online library of research on key topics in education and work with other members of the research team to develop seminal thought-leadership pieces (such as white papers, conference presentations, and trends reports) that are distributed to K-12 leaders across the country. This is a mid-level researcher position that reports to a senior member of the K12 practice area. 




  1. Conducting secondary research to address research questions related to key components of K-12 education (e.g., strategic planning, curriculum, instruction, school culture/climate, operations, community engagement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, etc.)
  2.  Analyzing and synthesizing secondary source material (e.g., best practice research, literature reviews, empirical studies, district/school documentation) in order to:
    1. Draw key insights from the literature
    2.  Make actionable recommendations to decision-makers
  3.  Writing reports and creating other types of deliverables (e.g., presentations, infographics) to communicate findings to different types of audiences (e.g., district and school administrators and instructional staff, parents, students, community members)
  4. Effectively managing the phases of the project life cycle (i.e., project scoping, research, analysis and synthesis, and deliverable creation) to ensure we meet deadlines and deliver research to clients in a timely manner
  5. Mentor and manage the work of junior research staff on both individual projects as project leader and as a personal manager

Skills & Experience

  1. Experience conducting social science research in a professional or academic setting, having developed the ability to:

  4. Ability to succinctly and efficiently synthesize content and communicate results

  6. Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  7. Demonstrated interest in K-12 education


  1.  Experience conducting K-12 research in a professional or academic setting

  2.  Familiarity with federal and state education databases

  3.  Writing for a business/non-academic audience

  4.  Experience in designing compelling visuals to communicate results (e.g., charts and graphs, infographics)

  5. Experience managing or mentoring staff in professional setting


Education Requirement
A Master’s degree in Education, Business, Economics, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, or a related discipline is preferred, though candidates with relevant experience without a Master’s or who hold other degrees will be considered.
Experience Requirement
3-5 years of full-time work experience conducting research, survey design/analysis or professional writing. Applied business or educational research experience is preferred.
