Hanover Research, a global research, analytics, and information services firm, is seeking a Chief Research Officer to lead the 250+ person research team responsible for producing high-quality custom research, syndicated research, and digital products across the Corporate, Higher Education and K12 sectors.


The Chief Research Officer will be an experienced people-leader with a background in market research and information services, and they will have considerable experience in process engineering and workflow and organizational design. Candidates should have experience managing a large team or organization. The ideal candidate will also bring experience guiding teams through transitions and partnering with product and technology leaders to make services and products more scalable, more insightful, and more valuable to customers.


The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a high-growth environment and will be a thoughtful leader who thrives on building and managing teams and helping those teams reach their full potential.


This position will report to the CEO and will represent Research on the Executive team.

  • Provide overall leadership, guidance, and roll-up-your-sleeves support to the Research organization, by directly managing Senior Leaders on the team across all practice-areas, including Corporate, K12 and Higher Education and across all methodologies, including Quantitative, Qualitative and Secondary Research.
  • Recruit, coach and retain senior leaders in the research organization.
  • Work closely with Revenue and Product teams to ensure that Research teams are aligned with market and customer demand.
  • Monitor customer demand and experience; propose product and/or service changes to increase demand and improve customer experiences.
  • Manage, create, monitor internal KPIs to ensure that research services and products are delivered efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure that the research team, our services, and products are delivering on the product vision.
  • Collaborate with Product, Innovation and Technology teams in our mission to deliver more insightful custom research more quickly and efficiently through ongoing process improvement and innovation.
  • Responsibility for research department budgeting and planning.


  • At least 15 years' experience managing research, product and/or content production teams in information services or adjacent sectors (i.e., media, publishing, consulting).
  • Exceptional communicator and collaborator, capable of building strong relationships with direct reports and peers on the executive team.
  • Experience leading teams in high-growth environments.
  • Detail oriented with superior problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent people and talent management skills – able to evaluate and mentor.
  • Experience leading service teams through digital transformations; experience working with technology teams to integrate technologies into workflows to drive quality, efficiency, and insights; experience designing organizational structures to efficiently deliver information and insights; experience defining, optimizing, and implementing new workflows and processes.
  • Experience managing budgets and working closely with Finance/FP&A on budgeting and planning.
